Saturday 23rd January Club Social Ride with Cycling Weekly

On Saturday 23rd January the Ipswich Bicycle Club Social Ride will be joined by Cycling Weekly who will feature the club in a future edition of Cycling Weekly “Ride With”.

All club members are welcome to join in and if you are coming please make an effort to wear your club clothing as it will make the photos much more special.

As the ride is to be a continuous 40 mile route please ensure that you bring plenty of drink and nutrition (snacks and gels) to keep you going until we get back to the Cult Café.

We will be doing a loop ride out of Northgate going approx 40 miles to arrive back at the Cult Cafe for a final coffee and cake social.
All groups, Black, Red and Blue will ride the first part to Barking Tye on the same route, via Henley and Needham Mkt. The journalist will start with the Black group(s) and swap to Red(s) at the Barking Fox (Stop 1). The Black groups will then make their own way back to Ipswich via any route they choose aiming for arrival at The Cult about 11:45 ish.
The Red and Blue rides will then ride different routes from Barking to Hadleigh so as to meet up at the same time. The journalist will swap from Red to Blue in the car park of the Edge House Hotel (Stop 2) at the end of Hadleigh High Street just before the junction with Station Road and Benton Street.
The Red group will return to Ipswich via any route they choose aiming for arrival back at The Cult at 11:45.
The Blue group(s) will return to The Cult via Raydon, Capel St. Mary, Bentley, Tattingstone, Holbrook coming in under the Orwell Bridge arriving at The Cult approx 11:55.

I have created 2 routes on GPSies which can be downloaded in a variety of formats to load onto your cycle GPS devices like Garmins.
They are:
http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=evfrlyojaqokuyqh

http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=acqvuhztohgkwvbh

The Blue and Red routes show the same route to Barking Tye that all groups will take. The Red takes a different route from Barking to Hadleigh. The Blue is a shorter route from Barking to Hadleigh to ensure that the Blue arrives close to the Red for handover. Both then have different routes back to Ipswich.

The start point is Northgate Sports Centre car park Sidegate Lane West, Ipswich, Suffolk IP4 3DJ. Roll out is 9am prompt so please arrive at 8:30 in order to prepare and be introduced to your ride group.

The finish point is Cult Cafe James Hehir Building, University Ave, Ipswich, Suffolk IP3 0FS.

Mark Salter

Saturday 22nd August Social Rides – Crafted Classique

Saturday 22nd August – There will be no IBC Social Rides from Northgate Sports Centre
Instead we will be running Blue, Red and Black Rides as part of the Crafted Classique Sportive.
Simon Males will be leading and organising a black ride over the 100 mile distance. Please contact Simon for details and confirmation of your intention to join his group.
David Boother and Will Taylor will be leading and organising 2 red rides over the 100 mile distance. These will be ridden at an average of 18mph so please don’t join if you cannot maintain that speed over the distance. Please inform David and/or Will of your intention to join either of these groups.
Mark Salter & Les Roper will be leading and organising a blue ride over the 100 mile distance. This will be ridden at an average of 15mph so again please don’t join in this group if you cannot maintain that speed over a 100 mile course. Please inform Mark of your intention to join this group.
Marcus Sharpe will be leading and organising a blue ride over the 100Km (63 mile) distance. This is the ride to join if you have never done 100 miles before and are looking to challenge yourself to go a bit beyond the normal club run distances. Marcus will keep to the blue average of 14-16 mph and ensure that all riders stay in the group. Please inform Marcus of your intention to join this group.
If you don’t want to join any of these groups then feel free to ride the sportive at your own pace (there will be plenty of riders to tag along with on the road) and don’t forget there is always the option of doing the 55Km route specially set out for those who are new to Sportive’s.
If you have registered online, you have the option to collect your timing chips and sign-on between 4-8pm on Friday 21st August from Cult Cafe on the Ipswich waterfront. This means you can simply turn up and ride from 8am on the day of the event, without needing to do any additional sign-on.
For all the group rides mentioned above please arrive at the Cult Café by 7:30 am so that we can form up into groups and set off promptly at 8am as soon as we are allowed to start.

Ipswich Road Race Results

2015 saw the Ipswich Road Races being a huge success again. The Mens race was oversubscribed for another year and selection for the races took place around the ERRL rules to ensure we had an even field of riders from the Eastern area ERRL CLubs.

A full field of 70 Men took to the roads around Gosbeck before the 40 Women raced after lunch. The Womens field had double on online entries compared to last year, and was a Womens Eastern Road League (WERL) event. While it was a little damp for the Men, the sun did come out in the afternoon for the Women.

Many thanks to all the people who gave up their time to help out on this prestigious event.

Ipswich Spring Scrambles 22nd March

Ipswich BC as part of the Eastern Road League is proud to present a Reg B race for 3rd and 4th Cats (0930hrs), and a Women only race (1300hrs) on the same day for 2 / 3/ 4’s.

Working with British Cycling regional representatives and local authorities, Ipswich Bicycle Club has a history of providing quality racing in the area, and the Gosbeck circuit is quite a challenging course. The neutralised roll out from the Village Hall heads north to Helmingham and Framsden Mill, where at the top of the climb and after five laps the race ends. The course itself turns left to Petaugh after Framsden, left to Crowfield and sharp left back to Gosbeck.

This year we have employed the services of the National Escort Group who with their motorcycles help to ensure the safety of the riders and the public.

Whilst the riders are racing a team of volunteers has worked hard in order to support the race on the day, and in the weeks beforehand. These people give up their own spare time to support this event, and are appreciated enormously by the organiser.

Women only racing is becoming more popular and this year a field of 40+ has already signed up for the afternoon race. Riders in this race are coming from as far afield as Manchester and Kidderminster, with lots of Eastern counties riders taking part. The Men’s race has a full field of 70 riders, all from Eastern Road Race League member clubs.

The Women’s Only Reg B has 19 places left. If you would like to enter please contact Paulrippon32@btinternet.com, who will endeavour to get you a place before the race day.
