April Club News

Welcome to the April Newsletter of Ipswich Bicycle Club.

108 cyclists tackled the 3 different routes from Playford Village Hall for the annual Reliability Rides. Many were pleased of the cake selection or beans on toast at the finish. I don’t think anyone managed to get lost this year with the new maps.  By far the most popular distance was the 100Km ride, to challenge the more hardy riders. Some members (you know who you are!) took full advantage of Anna, who was providing massages for a contribution toward her British Heart Foundation fundraising.

The Ipswich Spring Scrambles took place from Gosbeck. This year we held a 3 / 4 Mens race and a 2/3/4 Womens race. The Mens field of 70 was always going to be full. This is a really popular early season event on a popular course. 46 women raced after lunch, covering the same distance as the Men. With the finish at the top of Framsden Mill hill it is suited to the very light sprinters for a quick run up the hill. Congratulations to 1st Jack Hardwicke, 3rd Grant Martin and 6th Martin Barkes. In the Womens Race 1st was Sian Botteley from Velosure Primal, 2nd Rose Osborne Team WNT and 3rd Abby Mae-Parkinson Team Giordana Triton. Thank you to all who helped out.

The Ipswich District Cycle Association  time trials have begun with two 5 milers’ from Henley. This Tuesday 21st April, is Ipswich Bicycle Club turn to host the events for 6 weeks on the Crowfield Circuit. Sign On is at Crowfield Village Hall from about 5.30pm. If you can spare some time to help out it would be appreciated over the coming weeks. The categories have been altered this year to have a Ladies section, road bike section, and others. The new web page has all the details.

With the warm weather more people are taking to their bikes again to take part in the Saturday Club rides. If you would like to lead one of these rides one week, please do mention it to the ride leaders David Boother, Will taylor or Jules Hicks. I can pass on your details if you wish.  The popularity of this weekly ride out means we do need people to come forward to lead.

Not sure about taking part in the Ride London event? Good news, there are still Club places for Ladies wanting to take part in the Prudential Ride London event on Sunday August 2nd. Club info for Ride London if you are interested. It should be a great day out riding around Surrey and the capital. prudentialridelondon.co.uk

The popular Club training sessions are continuing to take place with Adam Keer. Check out coaching to see what is going on. Members and non-Members are always welcome.

The Club has become involved with Kesgrave Community Centre, with their Special Cycle Roadshow– To celebrate the Women’s Cycle Tour starting in Suffolk this year, KWMCC are organising a special Cycle Roadshow event on the 14th June at Kesgrave Community Centre. Ipswich Bicycle Club has a gazebo/stand. If you would like to help out, please contact Wendy Boother.
