Time Trialing

A Time trial in cycling terms is a race against the clock over a set distance or Time from 5miles to 24hr, the race of truth as it’s become known has become a very technical and Specialist event however that doesn’t mean you need to have a £5k+ bike to enjoy it! Enjoy being a strange term for an event that pushes you to the limit but not quite over it. Some riders or ‘Testers’  specialise in TTs, road racer’s also use them as a form of training and others just like the Pain.

More about time trialling can be found here on the UK Time trialling governing body the CTT:

A useful beginner’s guide has also been published or you can ask the many TT riders in the club like Ant Birt, Angus Jardine TT specialist and Simon Hance Vets Champion.

Ipswich Bicycle Club is affiliated with the Eastern District Cycling Association. A full list of local 2018 time trial events can be found EDCA 2017 Time Trials. Anyone wanting to enter a time trial please do so via the Cycling Time Trials website.

There is also a SpoCoEast TT Competition and a list of qualifying events can be found at SpoCoEast.

Club Trophys

As a club in excess of 100 years old there are numerous trophies to compete for and its not just the fastest who has a chance. A full list of trophies to compete for will appear soon but here is just a taster so why not set a target for this season.

1. Club champion Ladies and mens 25 mile trophies (Vs handicap),

2. Fastest 50Mile

3. Fastest 100mile (not many people do a 100mile a year so have a go if your keen or mad:-)

4. Novice 25mile(if you haven’t done a 25mile before your eiligble

5. Season TT handicap (handicap based on previous times) and usually combining 3 CTT events at distances of 25mile, 10mile and 2 or 3 ICA evening 10s. The prize rewards consistency and goes to the club member who performs best against their handicap and not necessarily the fastest rider.
