Dear Riders and Parents,

We are planning a coaching session Sat 3rd Dec 2016 at Foxhall Stadium, Ipswich –    IP4 5QW. Please use the Foxhall Road entrance to the stadium if you are travelling by car.

Coaches Ross, Adam and Peter  will greet you  and run the session. The session will focus on some skills and ‘fun’ racing.

The session will run from 10am-12noon for riders aged 7yrs+ incorporating Adults too.  Club membership is not essential but you are always  welcome to join .

Important – Please arrive no later than 9.45am  –  Parents that haven’t completed a consent form this year as yet, we will have some to complete on the day.

Don‘t forget your bicycle (in full working order), helmet, gloves and drink, £3.00 per rider and appropriate ‘warm’ clothing for the weather, it is likely to be cold!

The session is aimed at the off-road discipline so cyclo-cross or mtb bikes with off-road tyres are most suitable.

IBC Social Evening & Membership Sign On at Greshams Monday 5th December 2016

As you know, every First Monday Monthly should be in your calendar as the IBC Monday Social and the next one is special, it is a great opportunity to renew your membership early.

As your Chairman, Paul Rippon, said at the AGM, 2017 is the Club’s 125th anniversary and early renewal will still run to 31 Dec 2017 as usual. There is no price increase as he also explained. The key thing is we are celebrating with additional commemorative membership gifts that you can only collect via this event.

As usual, it is in The Ven Yew Room at Greshams, from 7:30pm onwards – this next Monday 5 December – let’s make it an occasion!

You can pay online via the British Cycling web page as usual from now on or save yourself the £1 admin charge and pay by cash/cheque straight to the Club at this event. There will be committee members available to check that your details are up to date for Club records – e.g. a recent check indicated that 1/4 of members did not have a next of kin recorded.

Meet your new Membership Secretary, Mike Kingshott, and other committee members will be available for advice and information or just a chance to meet. Use our Corporate membership prices at the bar and in the restaurant by making it clear to Greshams staff that you are a corporate member. Try on, buy and order Club kit and leisurewear. (As per usual for all Club Socials!)

More details will be sent to you about other Monday Socials nearer the time, including one that will be an EGM to discuss proposals about financial planning changes and one that could not be voted upon at the AGM.

The Committee look forward to seeing you there!

IBC 2016 Hill Climb & Half Wheel Results

winnersThe IBC Hill Climb and Half Wheel Trophy was held a bit earlier than previous years to fit in with the hill climbing season and better weather, which in turn saw a big turnout competing the titles.

It was also decided to bring the hill climb back to Watson’s Hill where the Sudbury CC open is held every year, where our boys and girls have done very well at taking individual and team titles in the past.

With the social ride heading there and then looping back to the Cult Cafe we had in excess of 40 riders on the hill which was the best I’ve seen in my time at the club.

As ever the main contenders came to the fore even if some had to do it twice 😉 (technical issue with the time keeper) but man of the moment Ollie Jones showed just how far he has come in the last few years by recording a winning time of 49 secs. The ladies title was taken with a very good ride from Jo Newstead, regaining her title from 3 years ago. One youngster had a go, Marcus Friend aged 14 and put in a really good time securing his name on a trophy next year.

Lots of the club members all gave it a shot and there were some very good times recorded. All in all a good day was had and hopefully the last week of September is now the date for the club hill climb and half wheel.

Ipswich Bicycle Club Half Wheel Event results 2016

This years event was held on the hill running down to Kersey with a good 35-40 competitors all freewheeling themselves as far as they could. It was clear to see the best option was the Froome Tuck and all of the top 4 used it. Hats off to Mike who was first away and held the lead from the start. Chris Jones thought he may have done enough to at least beat his son in a  comp but alas not, Ollie still travelled half a bike length further. Haha and pre-event favorite Marcus Sharpe again came up just short.

Winner Mike Kingshott

So it just leaves me to say a big thank you to all who came out and took part and those who helped out. See you out and about again soon.

Saturday Social Ride 1st October 2016

This Saturday as it is the first of the month will see us run a green ride for those riders who are new to group riding. Unfortunately, as the Autumn is now arriving this will be the last Green ride until April next year when the weather hopefully turns warm and dry again.

IBC Annual Hill Climb and Half Wheel Competition

Saturday 24th is our Club Hill Climb and Half Wheel Competition!

This years events will be held at Watsons Hill and Semer Hill in Semer.
The Saturday club ride will be heading there from Northgate at 9am and then looping back to the Cult Cafe for refreshments and cake.
With the Sudbury Open Hill climb just a few weeks later its a good chance to see where your legs are at and of course be in with a chance to be crowned our club champions.
