Road Racing

Ipswich Bicycle Club Spring Scrambles

The annual Ipswich road races take place this year on Sunday March 20th.  As in previous years the HQ will be Gosbeck village hall.

The Men’s 3 4  race will start at 0930, and Women’s Only at 1300. Once again we have secured the services of the National Escort Group motorcycle group to assist the riders around the amended course.  The Women’s only event is becoming more popular, and follows the same course as the men finishing in the same distance of approximately 55 miles. This Women’s event counts towards WERL standings. Riders for this event have previously travelled from as far afield as Edinburgh. Prizes for top 10 placing in these races are quite generous. Last year’s result are here.

The course has been slightly extended to exclude the hairpin turn back into Gosbeck. This year we will be going straight down the hill, to left turn at the bottom to Ashbocking and left again to pick up the old course. With the finish just after the windmill on Framsden Mill Hill, this is always a highly contested event. In accordance with Eastern Road Race League rules riders will be only selected from affiliated clubs. With only 70 places up for grabs in each race, the selection takes place at the beginning of March.

Work has been going on behind the scenes for some time with local authorities and British Cycling in order to host this event. We would be grateful for some volunteers to help out on the day with Sign on, Lead cars, refreshments and various other tasks. Please contact Paul Rippon if you can spare a few hours. This years event is here.
